Alexander Isak has disclosed his circumstances at Newcastle United this summer.
Isak has abstained from Newcastle’s first-team responsibilities for the past month, and he did not participate in the pre-season matches or the inaugural game of the Premier League season at Aston Villa.
Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s £110 million transfer proposal for Isak.
The Magpies are currently in the process of acquiring a striker before the transfer window closes on September 1. They are unlikely to consider selling Isak unless a successor is found for both him and Callum Wilson, who departed the club as a free agent earlier in the summer.
Isak was summoned to the PFA Awards in Manchester on Tuesday evening after being nominated for the Player’s Player award and named in the Team of the Season following his 27-goal 2024/25 campaign at Newcastle.
The striker has now finally disclosed his intentions to pursue a transfer to Liverpool, as he is presently training independently.
Alexander Isak releases a statement regarding Newcastle United’s circumstances.
Isak, who had not posted on Instagram since reacting positively to the addition of Anthony Elanga last month, posted a statement on his story.
It stated, “I am honored to have been selected by my peers as a member of the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.”
“Initially, I would like to express my gratitude to Newcastle United and my teammates for their unwavering support.”
“I will not be present at the ceremony this evening.” I did not feel comfortable being present in the midst of all the events.
“I have maintained my silence for an extended period of time while others have spoken.” This reticence has enabled individuals to promote their own interpretation of the events, despite their awareness that it does not accurately represent the actual words and agreements that were made behind closed doors.
“The truth is that the club has been aware of my situation for an extended period of time, and promises were made.” It is misleading to present these issues as if they are merely emergent.
“The relationship cannot endure when promises are violated and trust is shattered.” That is the current state of affairs for me, and it is for the benefit of all parties, not just myself, that change is necessary.
Isak has not been granted a new contract this summer, as the club’s hierarchy has emphasized that the forward is still under contract until 2028, despite the absence of Staveley and Mitchell.
Eddie Howe, Newcastle’s head coach, expressed his desire for a resolution to the situation: “We would like a resolution.” “I am discussing myself, and I am confident that the ownership and the players are also involved.” We require that clarity. Distractions are unnecessary.
“However, I am not in charge of that.” I believe that only one individual, specifically Isak, has the ability to regulate that.
“This season, any season, and every season, will be difficult enough.” You do not require any form of distraction to divert your attention or disrupt the course of our actions.
“I trust that the matter will be resolved expeditiously, as it is always in the news.” The athletes have successfully suppressed this and have continued to perform. It is imperative that we persist in this endeavor.
