The Arsenal star has already made the decision to depart this summer. In January 2023, the 33-year-old Italian international transferred from Chelsea to Arsenal for a fee of £12 million. Since then, he has appeared in 78 matches across all competitions.
Jorginho has been recognised as a critical member of Mikel Arteta’s dressing room, providing leadership and expertise, despite not always being a regular starter. Nevertheless, Jorginho has reportedly resolved to depart after his contract expires this summer and negotiations regarding a renewal are not progressing. Arsenal’s negotiations with Jorginho regarding an extension have failed, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“The situation between Arsenal and Jorginho will conclude in the summer.” READ MORE: MANCHESTER CITY LEGEND GIVES BUKAYO SAKA A LARGE COMPLIMENT PRIOR TO PSG CLASH Joao Santos, Jorginho’s agent, had previously reported that negotiations with numerous clubs, including Arsenal, as well as teams in Italy,
Saudi Arabia, and Brazil, were scheduled to commence in mid-April. Arsenal was unsuccessful in its efforts to persuade the midfielder to extend his contract for an additional year.Flamengo, a Brazilian club, made a late approach for Jorginho during the January transfer window earlier this year. Arsenal rejected the offer, as Arteta was determined to retain him for the duration of the season, despite his alleged willingness to depart early.
The Euro 2020 champion has only made nine Premier League starts this season and was recently photographed in Rio de Janeiro, which has fuelled rumours of a potential return to Brazil, his country of birth. Flamengo has identified Jorginho as their primary target to succeed Erick Pulgar, the departing Chilean midfielder.
They are prepared to extend a three-year contract to him. It is believed that Jorginho has already communicated directly with Felipe Luís, the head coach of Flamengo and a former Chelsea defender. Palmeiras have also expressed interest in the veteran playmaker; however, they are presently behind Flamengo in the pursuit of his signature.
