The actions of Sporting supporters towards Ruben Amorim in the first game following the transfer to
Manchester United are significant.Ruben Amorim was greeted with applause by Sporting CP supporters as he entered the pitch of play mere hours after being appointed as Manchester United’s new head coach. When the 39-year-old assumes his position at Old Trafford on November 11, he will become the sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure from the club. Amorim, however, had three games to supervise with the Lisbon team before the international break later this month, following his official appointment at midday on Friday. The initial of these occurred on Friday evening, when Sporting CP entertained Estrela da Amadora at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in an effort to preserve their unblemished Liga Portugal inaugural season. Moreover, the Sporting CP supporters expressed their sentiments regarding Manchester United’s new head coach by applauding Amorim as he approached the touchline prior to the game at the Estadio Jose.
Sporting CP will face Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and Amorim will preside over his final game on home soil. On Sunday, November 10, his farewell match as manager of the club will be against his former team, Braga. In order to expedite Amorim’s notice period, United and Sporting CP reached an agreement on a compensation package. The Portuguese player commenced his two-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds on November 11. On November 24, he will assume responsibility for United’s inaugural encounter against Ipswich Town.
