On January 17, Steve Nickson, the recruitment director for the Magpies, was present at Lille’s 2-1 victory over Nice. He was particularly attentive to both Jonathan David and Hakon Arnar Haraldsson.

David, a Canadian international, is poised to become one of the most sought-after free agents in Europe this summer, as he is out of contract. However, NewcastleWorld reported earlier this month that there is some optimism that United will be able to negotiate a deal.

David has scored 102 goals in only 173 appearances during his four years at Lille, including 18 in 31 games this season. David had previously achieved success at Gent, where he had a similarly prolific period, netting 35 goals in 58 starts.Four Premier League clubs, as well as two from Serie A, have submitted representations to the agent of the 25-year-old, according to national media reports.

However, Eddie Howe’s team is confident that they can surpass any other competitor in obtaining the player’s signature. But according to the Daily Mail, Nickson was not the only player who was monitoring David; Icelandic international Haraldsson also garnered attention after scoring that evening.

In 58 appearances, the 21-year-old, who relocated from Copenhagen to Lille 18 months ago, has contributed nine goals and eight assists. Haraldsson has been likened to the legendary Luka Modric of Real Madrid due to his exceptional ball-handling skills, which enable him to play as either a midfielder or a winger.David and Haraldsson’s potential acquisition will almost undoubtedly be postponed until the summer.

Howe has discussed the possibility of Newcastle making a significant signing on numerous occasions this month, as the club is under pressure to adhere to the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).On Friday, Howe stated, “I am uncertain as to the number of times I must reiterate it.” We have not been active in terms of incomings at this time, but you never say never.

I do not want people to play this back to me and say I lied. “I am not fabricating any information.” I would never purposefully deceive my supporters or anyone else. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to participate in the market. That may be subject to change if there are any unforeseen circumstances regarding expenditures.
