The Detroit Lions have signed the former Texas A&M quarterback. Elite quarterbacks were frequently recruited during the Kevin Sumlin era at Texas A&M. Kellen Mond was the most consistent signal caller,

but it is absurd to imagine that Kyler Murray, the future No. 1 overall NFL Draft selection, and former five-star Kyle Allen were on the same roster for an entire season. Allen’s NFL tenure began as an undrafted free agent in 2018 with the Carolina Panthers, and he has remained in the league as a reliable backup ever since, despite Murray being the Arizona Cardinals’ starting quarterback since the 2019 season.

After a shoulder injury impeded his performance during the 2015 season, Allen’s career at Texas A&M underwent a significant transformation. Ultimately, he transferred to Houston for two seasons before entering the NFL Draft. Allen played in 21 games during his tenure at Texas A&M, completing 278 of 475 passes for 3,532 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.

Allen is expected to compete for the reserve position behind starting quarterback Jared Goff in the 2025 season, following his tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2024 season.

He will also be accompanied by former Texas A&M tight end and Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell. Allen has played in 31 games, including 19 starts, over the course of his seven seasons in the league. Allen’s most fruitful season occurred in 2019, when he was forced to start 12 games due to injuries. He threw for 3,322 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
