Another senior Newcastle United player is expected to be sidelined as a result of Callum Wilson’s injury.

There was speculation that Nick Pope was an injury concern for the upcoming match against Leicester City, as he was not visible in Newcastle’s training photos.

Newcastle United will be without their first-choice goalkeeper for the entirety of the festive season, as it has been reported that the England international will be unavailable for an entire month.

Keith Downie, a correspondent for Sky Sports, has reported that Nick Pope will be sidelined for a month as a result of the knee ligament damage he sustained during the Brentford match last weekend.

is unlikely to be a starter for the Magpies, despite the fact that he cost Nottingham Forest £20 million.

In reality, he was only brought to St James’ Park for PSR purposes, as Newcastle sold Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35 million in an effort to adhere with the Premier League’s financial regulations.

Eddie Howe desired to increase the competition among Newcastle United’s goalkeepers. One of Eddie Howe’s summer demands that was disregarded during the previous transfer window is underscored by Pope’s recent injury and Newcastle’s likelihood of reverting to Dubravka.

Howe informed the Geordie Boot Boys that he intended to recruit a new goalkeeper to contend with Nick Pope.

This is the reason Newcastle pursued players such as Aaron Ramsdale and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Nevertheless, the Magpies’ strategy was modified as a result of their failure to secure a spot in Europe.

Newcastle’s focus shifted to James Trafford, who was perceived as a potential successor to Pope in the future.

Newcastle anticipated the signing of Trafford; however, the agreement was suspended amid the club’s desperate efforts to adhere to PSR.

Newcastle was unable to rationalize the acquisition of Trafford unless another goalkeeper departed the club, as Vlachodimos had arrived. Newcastle continued to pursue Trafford on loan, even on the day of the transfer deadline; however, negotiations were unsuccessful.

Instead, Newcastle was left with a goalkeeper they never really wanted in the first place, Odysseas Vlachodimos, an ageing and out of form Martin Dubravka, and an injury-prone Nick Pope.

The Magpies now have five senior goalkeepers, including Mark Gillespie and John Ruddy, in addition to the aforementioned triumvirate.

Nevertheless, Newcastle’s four reserves are not at a sufficient level to challenge Pope, as they are preparing to play without their first-choice goalkeeper for the next few weeks. It is yet another illustration of PSR’s failure to fulfill its obligations to Newcastle United.
