The former Rangers striker has stated that Celtic were “in talks” to acquire him as a replacement for Henrik Larsson, who sustained a severe injury.

Celtic’s recent dominance of Scottish football was initiated during the period in which Henrik Larsson terrorised Scottish defences. During his tenure at the club, the Swedish legend was such a prolific striker that he achieved four league titles, two Scottish Cups, and two League Cups, including Celtic’s first treble since the Jock Stein era.

Additionally, he reached a European final.Larsson sustained a severe injury in 1999 when he collided with Serge Blanc of Lyon in an unintentional collision, resulting in a double leg break that prohibited him from playing for Celtic for the duration of the season. Ian Wright, a former Arsenal hero, was brought in to provide cover for the legendary striker.

However, the outcome could have been significantly different if the Parkhead club had opted for their alternative option following the recent admission of a former Rangers striker. Billy Dodds, a former Rangers striker, has stated that he was unsuccessful in his pursuit of a contract with Celtic.

In 1999, Billy Dodds joined Rangers for a fee of £1.3 million. However, it is possible that he would have worn the green and white Hoops had Celtic declined to sign Wright. In an interview with The Warm-Up, Dodds stated, “My contract was expiring, Rennes expressed interest, but it never transpired.”

“When I was playing for Dundee United and Celtic, John Blackley approached me and informed me that they were in discussions regarding my departure. However, it was only myself and Ian Wright who were involved in the negotiations, as Henrick Larsson was injured and Ian Wright was chosen. Consequently, there was no issue.”

However, that was the one that I somewhat overlooked.”Ian Wright’s Celtic record Wright joined Celtic in the latter stages of his career; however, he only appeared in nine matches for the club. During that period, the former Arsenal player scored three goals in the green and white hoops, but only one of them was tallied at Celtic Park.

Therefore, the following contests earned Wright the reputation of scoring a goal every three games for Celtic: 10/30/99: Celtic 5 v 1 Kilmarnock 11/20/1999: Hearts 1 v 2 Celtic Aberdeen defeated Celtic 6–0 on November 12, 1999. Therefore, despite the fact that Wright was not as prolific as he would have preferred, he remains a Celtic striker who scored goals and is remembered in records.
