Matheus Cunha, who joined Manchester United this summer, may have received a gift when he finalized his £62.5m transfer from Wolves earlier this month.
Earlier this month, Cunha, 26, signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional year, becoming Ruben Amorim’s inaugural signing of the summer.
Cunha described his experience of joining Manchester United as a fantasy come true after the transfer was finalized.
Cunha told the club’s official website, “It is the most common phrase that you can say at this moment, but this is the dream come true.”
“The Premier League was not available on the channel in my residence.” The channel was unavailable at my cousin’s residence. He is elder than I am and is a diehard United fan. He influenced me to begin watching the Premier League and to recognize the importance of supporting United.
“We have arranged to watch the Premier League every weekend, as it is only available at my grandmother’s residence.”
“And for me, this club was always a bit inside of me.” We referred to these pitches as “Old Trafford” when we played on the street, the shore, or the gravel pitch with him. Just imagine!
“So, wow, it is so difficult to be here now, reflecting on the past; it is extremely emotional for me.”
Certainly, Cunha will receive a substantial compensation for his contributions to United. According to The Telegraph, his salary has increased from £120,000 per week to £200,000 per week, thereby establishing him as the fourth highest earner at the club, according to Capology’s data.
However, United players are also granted a “welcome gift” upon their arrival at the Premier League’s most prominent club, in addition to a robust bank account.
During an appearance on the Fozcast in 2024, Nick Cox, the Director of Academy at United, disclosed that new recruits are issued a club blazer.
Cox stated, “The blazer is a minor detail, but it seems to have a significant impact on every environment we visit.” This is not a challenging task when the United crest is applied.
“However, it appears to impress individuals.” It is a tribute to all who have worn the blazer before, rather than merely being about standards and discipline, which is of greater significance to us. Therefore, our youth program is inextricably linked to the survival of this football club during the conflict.
“We emerged from the war as a result of our youth program, which included young players.” We have been able to endure Munich and win European Cups as a result of the contributions of young players.
“And there is a genuine sense of pride in the individual who has donned a United blazer.”
