The key reason Tottenham winger Mikey Moore stayed at Rangers after the January transfer window

Why Tottenham decided not to recall Mikey Moore from Rangers

Tottenham Hotspur chose not to bring Mikey Moore back from his loan spell at Rangers during the January transfer window, allowing the young winger to continue his development in Scotland.

There had been concerns at Ibrox that Spurs might trigger a recall after Moore impressed under Danny Rohl, with some figures in North London reportedly keen on his return. However, no move materialised, and the 18-year-old remained in Glasgow — a decision that quickly paid off as he scored in Rangers’ 5–1 win over Kilmarnock.

According to reports from Football London, Tottenham’s hierarchy felt Moore would benefit more from consistent first-team football than returning to a squad where minutes could be limited. Despite injury issues in the Spurs squad, the opportunity to play regularly in front of large crowds at Ibrox was viewed as crucial for his progress.

The belief within the club is that Moore has already made significant strides during his loan, and staying at Rangers for the rest of the campaign will accelerate his development further.

That patience is now rewarding Rangers. As they push for the Scottish Premiership title, Moore’s attacking contributions could prove vital. Losing him midway through the season would have been a major setback.

With his long-term future still in North London, Rangers and Rohl will be keen to maximise his impact over the remainder of the season before he eventually returns to Tottenham, where he is expected to compete for a regular role.
