The Lions have reinstated a reserve cornerback and a critical special teams player. On the same day that the Detroit Lions acquired a veteran cornerback from the outside through free agency, the team also re-signed a veteran who has been with the team for the past two years.
On Saturday, the Lions announced that they had re-signed CB Khalil Dorsey. Dorsey has been associated with the Lions since December 2022. He has participated in 27 games during this period, with 14 of them occurring in 2024. Although Dorsey is classified as a cornerback, he has been significantly more influential on Detroit’s special teams units. In 2024, only Sione
Vagi Ben Niemann contributed more to the punt and kick teams. Dorsey did receive one emergency start at cornerback due to an injury last season, and he demonstrated his capabilities in Detroit’s Week 13 victory over Chicago on Thanksgiving. The 28-year-old’s season concluded on injured reserve as a result of a friendly-fire incident with the Bills,
during which he fractured his tibia and fibula. Dorsey’s return, in conjunction with the signing of veteran Rock Ya-Sin, will serve to strengthen the special teams and replenish the depth chart at the cornerback position as the Lions prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft in April.
