The Lions will disclose significant stadium information on Friday.
Lions Announce Significant Stadium Information on Ford Field’s construction commenced in November 1999, and the stadium was inaugurated in August 2002, nearly three years later.
Ford Motor Company acquired the stadium’s naming rights for $40 million over a 20-year period that same year. The naming rights agreement between the Lions and Ford was extended through the 2036 season on Friday. It is the second-longest naming rights partnership in the NFL, following Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.
Rod Wood, President and CEO of the Detroit Lions, stated, “Renewing our relationship with Ford Motor Company has always been a top priority for us.” During our relocation to downtown Detroit in 2002, Ford was a critical partner and has remained a valuable asset to our brand’s expansion.
We are honoured to have the name of a Detroit-based, iconic corporation emblazoned on our building for the foreseeable future. In addition to the Lions, Ford Field is the site of the Mid-American Conference championship college football game, the UFL’s Michigan Panthers, and events in a variety of sports, such as basketball, college hockey, high school athletics, and soccer. It is situated in downtown Detroit.
