Following Arne Slot’s team’s first Champions League game, a 3-1 win over AC Milan at the San Siro, the Liverpool captain spoke.

Virgil van Dijk thinks that Liverpool’s strong start to the Champions League season showed how much “sacrifice” Arne Slot’s team will have to make this season. The Reds showed they were back among the best teams in Europe by beating AC Milan 3-1 at the San Siro on Tuesday night.

Saturday’s shocking Premier League loss at home to Nottingham Forest was changed by Slot. Cody Gakpo and Kostas Tsimikas made their first starts of the season.

Both players set up goals. Gakpo set up Dominik Szoboszlai’s third goal, and Tsimikas sent in a corner that Van Dijk headed in to put Liverpool ahead.

Van Dijk added, “It sounds easy, but to be consistent, you have to stay fit and do everything you can to be ready for the next game whether you start or not.”

“You need to help us win the games.” Every guy needs to be ready.

“The guys on the bench might be upset.” We made two changes today, leaving Andy Robertson and Luis Diaz off the team. They want to play in these games, but we need everyone to be in the best shape of their lives.

“That’s very important if we want to succeed. People will switch roles, and we need everyone to keep pushing.” You have to give up that thing if you want to be effective.

In the first three minutes, Christian Pulisic put Milan ahead, but Ibrahima Konate tied the game in the middle of the first half. Four minutes before halftime, Van Dijk put Liverpool ahead, making it 1-0. It was a big night for the Reds captain.

He told Amazon Prime, “I’m very happy to be standing here after my 50th Champions League game with a goal and a win after a rough start.”

In a lot of ways, the weekend was disappointing. The last part of the game was especially difficult to watch and be a part of. We did have a chance to make things right, and I think we did.

“It was a rough start; it began on the left side. We were late everywhere, and they took advantage of that.” Following that, it was great to see how we kept our cool, kept playing, and kept looking for a way out. The way we worked after the beginning was great.
