This summer, it appears that Jeremie Frimpong, a player for Bayer Leverkusen, will be transitioning to a different club.

Since relocating to Germany in 2021, the Dutch star has evolved into one of the most captivating right-sided defenders in the world. Xabi Alonso has been instrumental in maximizing the 24-year-old’s potential over the past three seasons.

Man City has expressed interest in Frimpong, as Pep Guardiola is in need of a replacement for Kyle Walker in his current squad, as this has attracted several clubs to the player ahead of the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, Liverpool is also pursuing the Dutch star, and given that the defender initially selected Man City, it is possible that he will make the same decision this summer.

Jeremie Frimpong chose Man City over Liverpool due to transportation considerations. His admission to Man City’s academy in 2010 was a significant achievement at the time, as the Dutch star was pursued by numerous other clubs, including Liverpool.

The Reds were the defender’s initial choice; however, the Bayer Leverkusen star ultimately selected Manchester City due to his family’s lack of access to a vehicle, which limited his options.

Frimpong clarified his circumstances prior to his transfer to City to Rising Ballers in January, asserting that the Manchester club was the more logical choice.

“There were scouts present.” Like Liverpool, Bolton, Manchester City, and numerous other teams. Frimpong stated, “I initially selected Liverpool.”

“I was planning to sign for them; however, driving was not a reality at that time.” My family was not operating a vehicle, and the distance was considerable. I subsequently visited Man City, as it was a nearby establishment. It was more logical. The bus ride lasted 15 minutes.

After nine years in Manchester, Frimpong would join Celtic in 2019, before relocating to Germany. However, he would not succeed at Man City.

It is uncertain whether Guardiola regrets selling Frimpong, as Liverpool is now interested in the Bayer Leverkusen star. The Dutch talent is on the brink of a full circle, as he must once again choose between the two clubs.

Jeremie Frimpong, who is a target for Manchester City, is being pursued by Liverpool.
Arne Slot is currently in search of a new right-back, as Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid this summer. Fabrizio Romano reports that the Premier League champions are in the process of negotiating the signing of Frimpong, following contact that was established last week.

The Reds have already contacted Bayer Leverkusen to discuss the player’s £29m (€35m) release clause. Additionally, negotiations are currently ongoing between the player and Liverpool, with the defender expressing a strong interest in joining the club prior to the 2025/26 season.

This would be a setback for Guardiola, despite the fact that the Spanish coach still has a variety of options. Man City’s primary target is Wesley from Flamengo, and the Manchester club is also interested in Newcastle’s Tino Livramento.

It is uncertain which direction City will take, as the left-back position is another area that requires improvement. Guardiola is optimistic about the possibility of acquiring a player who can perform both roles.
