The main reason why Rangers escape a penalty call against Livingston after Emmanuel Fernandez’s arm arm challenge

Yengi’s shot seemed to clip the arm of Rangers centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez, prompting strong penalty shouts from Livingston.

On BBC Sportsound, commentator Paul Mitchell shared the update coming from VAR, explaining:
“The ball did strike the hand, but only after deflecting off the body first, so it wouldn’t qualify as a handball offence.”

However, former Rangers defender Richard Foster felt his old club were fortunate not to concede a spot-kick.
“He’s got his arm tucked in,” Foster noted. “It’s not extended, but if the shot is heading on target, I’m not sure.”

After watching the replay again, Foster added:
“I think Rangers have been pretty lucky there. That could easily have been awarded. For me, that’s a penalty. The movement is natural, but it still blocks a shot that’s going on target. Livingston can feel very unlucky not to get that decision.”
