The main reason why Rangers F.C. star that was sends out on a loan Oscar Cortes is on bench on most game in Spanish side Sporting de Gijón

Rangers secured winger Cortes from French club Lens in the summer for £4.5m, following a loan spell that included an obligation to buy.

However, despite making the move permanent, new manager Russell Martin quickly made it clear that the Colombian was not part of his long-term plans, sending him on loan to Sporting Gijon for the season. Martin oversaw a raft of signings over the summer, but results have faltered, and he has now lost the backing of most supporters.

Cortes has also endured a difficult time in Spain, with just 23 minutes of action in the Segunda División so far. While coach Asier Garitano has claimed the winger is short of match fitness, local outlet Killer Asturias has suggested the real issue is a lack of trust from the manager.

In three recent games where Sporting Gijon chased a result late on, Cortes was used just once for any meaningful stretch. With opportunities limited, speculation is already turning to January and the possibility of ending the loan early — though if Martin remains in charge at Ibrox, such a move may be unlikely.
