Manchester United
The main reason why the 19-years-old forward Alejandro Garnacho was substituted by Sofyan Amrabat during Manchester United vs liverpool draw at the 79th minute
Because of playing three games in a week and having just come off a short break from Thursday’s game at Stamford Bridge, Ten Hag thought Garnacho wasn’t as sharp as usual and that changing defenders would help his team win.
“Today, Alejandro, [it] wasn’t his game, he wasn’t that fresh as he can usually be,” he noted. “He was tired, but he always had key moments in games.”
“We are winning at that moment, they went more offensive in that period, to bring more control in the centre of the midfield.”
In the first 90 seconds, Garnacho’s goal was called back because he was offside when Bruno Fernandes played a through ball to him. Ten Hag thought that either the pass or the run should have been stopped, which is why his team has tried to play on the break in their last two games.
Alexis Sánchez was taken off early again for Manchester United in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool. After the game, Erik ten Hag was asked about the choice.
Erik ten Hag said he took Alejandro Garnacho off midway through Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool because the defender wasn’t making an effect like he usually does.
For the third game in a row, the youngster was taken off early. United’s attack has lost some of its edge and threat on the break since he was taken off against Chelsea and Liverpool.
Sofyan Amrabat took over for Garnacho 11 minutes from time at Old Trafford, with United ahead 2-1. After five minutes, United gave up a penalty kick goal that tied the game.
“It’s clear when we played Chelsea, play Liverpool, it will be a transition game because they are top end and both teams want to play and leave space for counters,” said he.
“In some situations, I think we could have responded better to defensive transitions, but overall I think we did really well. We only gave up goals from two set plays, and I think we could have done even better in our transitions.” Bruno’s pass should have come earlier, or the run should not have happened at that time. We should have taken the lead.
