The most important statistics from Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Valencia, as Robert Lewandowski’s goal sealed the match win
The first game of Barcelona’s La Liga season was a tough one against Valencia, but they earned their win.
In his first game as head coach of Barcelona, Flick had to use a somewhat shaky starting eleven because of different factors.
But the team’s toughness and efficiency showed through, thanks in large part to Robert Lewandowski’s brilliance.
Hugo Duro gave Valencia the lead early on, but Lewandowski’s clinical goal turned the game around. He scored two goals, one right before halftime and one right after, which gave Barcelona the win.
This win not only gives them a good start in La Liga, but it also boosts the team’s confidence because they had to work hard to beat a tough opponent. In order to show how important each player was, let’s look at some important game statistics.
How Lewandowski and Pedri Changed Things
When it comes to La Liga, Lewandowski seems to really enjoy playing against Valencia. There have been many goals scored against Barcelona since he joined the team.
He got three goals in Barcelona’s 4-2 win over them last season. Also, his amazing acrobatic goal at Mestalla in the 2022–23 season won Barcelona three important points and was a key part of their eventual league title under Xavi.
Yesterday’s game against Valencia was Lewandowski’s sixth goal in just four games against that team. It is the most goals he has scored against any La Liga team.

On the other hand, Pedri reached a big milestone when he played in his 100th La Liga game for Barcelona. Even more impressive is the fact that he has only played in La Liga and the Second Division with Las Palmas.
Pedri’s journey has been amazing, and even though he was hurt, he came back to the field with all of his normal energy and calmness. His success in La Liga—71 wins, 16 draws, and only 13 losses—shows how important he is to Barcelona’s midfield.
Other Important Stats: 3. Barcelona started three under-18 players in a La Liga game for the first time since at least the 1998–99 season. They did this twice, first against Almeria in May 2024 with Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, and Hector Fort, and then against Valencia with Yamal, Cubarsi, and Marc Bernal.
3: Hansi Flick is the third German to coach Barcelona in La Liga. Hennes Weisweiler and Udo Lattek were the first two. Like the managers who came before him, Flick started his La Liga career with a win, which set a good tone for his time at the club.
Lamine Yamal has helped score 10 goals in 38 La Liga games. He has scored five goals and set up five others.
Only Bojan Krkic and Ansu Fati have been more productive under-18 players in the 21st century. This shows Yamal’s bright future and his ability to make a mark at such a young age.
