The Premier League delivers a clear warning message to Newcastle United that might affect them negatively ahead of the 2024–25 season
Newcastle United has been consulted regarding VAR prior to the commencement of the Premier League this weekend.
In response to the negativity that has engulfed VAR this season, Premier League executives have requested that club managers and executives reduce their criticism of the system.
The Premier League conducted a visit to all 20 top-tier clubs, including Newcastle United, to address VAR. Players and managers were informed of the changes to the system’s operation, and video examples were provided to illustrate the subjective nature of certain rulings, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
According to the report, a survey of certain decisions resulted in a split among participants regarding whether they should have been referred. The Professional Game Match Officials Limited believe that this underscores the difficulty of their job.
In an effort to limit the involvement of the Video Assistant Referee to situations where a decision is deemed to be “clear and obvious,” VAR will emphasize the “referee’s call.”
The technology has been the subject of widespread criticism on numerous occasions, and Wolves attempted to eliminate it last season. However, their motion was thwarted by a margin of 19 to 1 at the Premier League AGM.
Officials are cognizant of the necessity for technological modifications, which will be executed this season. At some point this season, fans will be granted additional access to replays, and semi-automated offsides will be implemented.
In an effort to elaborate on the functionality of the system, the Premier League engaged in discussions with top-tier managers. Presentations were conducted at training facilities this summer to offer a more comprehensive understanding of the technology.
