The Premier League has reached an official determination regarding Newcastle United following the emergence of purported comments attributed to Liverpool.

The match officials for the Premier League fixture between Newcastle United and Liverpool, scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 PM, have been officially announced.

Andy Madley has been appointed as the referee for the match at St. James’ Park, where Newcastle aims to secure their inaugural Premier League victory against Liverpool since 2015.

The Reds presently maintain a nine-point lead at the summit of the Premier League standings, having secured victories in 11 of their initial 13 matches.

This will mark Madley’s inaugural match as the head official for Newcastle since their 5-1 victory against Aston Villa on the opening day of the 2023-24 season.

The 41-year-old referee has presided over one match involving Liverpool this season, specifically against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup, which concluded with a score of 5-1 in favour of the host team.

Madley will be supported by Wade Smith and Craig Taylor, with Anthony Backhouse serving as the fourth official.

Stuart Attwell will serve as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), with James Mainwaring acting as the Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR).

Liverpool has recently become embroiled in a refereeing controversy following the emergence of a smuggled video featuring Premier League match official David Coote, in which he made disparaging remarks about the club and its former head coach, Jurgen Klopp.

Coote has subsequently been prohibited from officiating matches pending the outcome of an investigation.

Coote would have been qualified to officiate or serve as the Video Assistant Referee for the match on Wednesday at St James’ Park, had he not been subjected to suspension.

Liverpool has secured victory in each of their last six encounters against Newcastle since the appointment of Eddie Howe as head coach in 2021.

The Magpies approach the forthcoming match positioned 11th in the Premier League standings, having played 13 matches.

Their recent performance includes conceding a late equaliser against Crystal Palace on Saturday and suffering a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United in their most recent encounter at St James’ Park.
