Premier League regulations may compel a £56 million expenditure. Newcastle United trio to be absent from the match against West Ham following the incident involving Arsenal. Three Newcastle United players are precariously navigating disciplinary issues as the November international break approaches.

Fabian Schar, Joelinton, and Dan Burn are each one booking away from a one-match suspension in the league, having received four yellow cards in Newcastle’s first ten league matches. Schar received a booking in Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal on Saturday for delaying the game by booting the ball away, while Burn accrued his fourth ticket against Brighton & Hove Albion. Joelinton has successfully avoided a booking in four

consecutive league matches since his yellow card against Manchester City in September. Schar has already completed a three-match suspension this season due to a red card received during the 1-0 victory against Southampton on the opening day in August. The former Swiss international, along with Burn and Joelinton, must refrain from receiving another booking until matchday 20 to evade suspension. The regulations of the Premier League stipulate that a player receiving five cautions in the first 19 league matches incurs a one-match suspension.

Newcastle’s next match is an away game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday at 2 PM. If any of the three players receive a booking in that match, they will be ineligible for Newcastle’s game against West Ham United at St James’ Park following the November international break. Schar, Burn, and Joelinton must complete nine matches without receiving a booking prior to Newcastle’s 20th

Premier League game, currently scheduled away against Tottenham Hotspur on January 4, 2025. Lewis Hall and Sandro Tonali must refrain from receiving two additional yellow cards in Newcastle’s forthcoming nine matches, as they have each been cautioned three times this season, while Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff have received two cautions.

Jacob Murphy, Lloyd Kelly, Nick Pope, and Joe Willock each own one yellow card. In the 2022-23 season, Joelinton received a one-match suspension for five cautions and a two-match suspension for amassing 10 yellow cards, and he now faces the possibility of another suspension this season.

Subsequent to the 19-game mark, the threshold for bookings and suspensions alters to 10 bookings, 32 games, and a two-match ban. Any player receiving 15 cautions over the season incurs a three-match suspension; however, no player has ever been cautioned that frequently in a single Premier League season.
