The reason behind Dujon Sterling’s Rangers omission against St Mirren

Dujon Sterling has been left out of Rangers’ matchday squad for their clash with St Mirren, with the decision understood to be precautionary rather than injury-related.

The versatile defender only recently returned from a long-term layoff, making his comeback against Ferencváros, and has featured in every match since. However, after a heavy run of minutes in a short period, Rangers have opted to carefully manage his workload.

Speaking ahead of the game on RangersTV, head coach Danny Rohl explained that the decision was made with Sterling’s recovery in mind. He admitted it was a difficult call but stressed the importance of protecting the player after such a lengthy absence, particularly given how much football he has played over the past few weeks.

Sterling is not the only absentee, with Connor Barron also missing out on the squad. In contrast, John Souttar and Mikey Moore return to the starting XI.

Rangers line up against St Mirren with Jack Butland in goal, supported by James Tavernier, John Souttar, Fernandez and Meghoma at the back. The midfield includes Nico Raskin, Mohamed Diomande and Kristian Aasgaard, while Mikey Moore, Gassama and Youssef Chermiti lead the attack.

On the bench, Rangers have Kelly, Nsiala, Aarons, Dowell, Barron, Curtis, Matondo, Cameron and Danilo available as substitutes.
