The reason Callum Wilson did not participate in the match for Newcastle United has been attributed to a newly disclosed injury setback, which has emerged in anticipation of the upcoming fixture against Liverpool.

Callum Wilson is not prepared to commence contests for Newcastle United following a seven-month period of inactivity.

Wilson has successfully regained his fitness following an extended period of injury-related absence and has made two substitute appearances for Newcastle, participating in the 2-0 loss to West Ham United and the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

As has frequently occurred in the past, Wilson’s resurgence to fitness has coincided with an injury setback for

Alexander Isak, who was compelled to leave the match against Crystal Palace early on Saturday.Rather than presenting Wilson as a direct substitute for Isak in the striker position,

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe chose to substitute in Harvey Barnes on the right wing, subsequently repositioning Anthony Gordon from the right flank to a central role.

Promotional AnnouncementWilson ultimately entered the match for the final 15 minutes, substituting for Gordon, prior to Newcastle conceding an equalising goal in the 94th minute.

With Isak officially classified as a doubt for the upcoming match against Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening (kick-off at 7:30 PM), Howe has verified that Newcastle continues to restrict Wilson’s playing time.

Given the current hierarchy of strikers, with Anthony Gordon positioned ahead of Will Osula, the Liverpool-born winger may be assigned the responsibility of spearheading the attack for Newcastle on Wednesday, should Isak be unavailable.

“I believe it is imperative that we support the players currently on our roster,” Howe stated. “The match against Crystal Palace presented significant challenges with Callum.

It is evident that he has had limited training time, and we must exercise caution to avoid exerting him too soon, which could result in his unavailability.

“Newcastle approaches the forthcoming match against Liverpool as one of the least prolific teams in the Premier League this season, having scored a mere 14 goals in their first 13 matches.

The Magpies achieved a remarkable total of 85 goals last season, marking their highest tally in a 38-match Premier League campaign.
