The reason for Elena Sadiku’s dismissal from the Celtic Women bench during the Rangers derby was that Celtic Women were the recipients of a harsh penalty decision during their loss to Rangers earlier this afternoon.
The Ghirls were narrowly defeated in the Glasgow derby at Hamilton Accies’ SuperSeal Stadium, resulting in a 3-2 loss at the summit of the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL).The outcome resulted in the Gers’ Women’s team ascending to the top of the division, while Elena Sadiku’s team was placed fourth with a game remaining.
However, the team’s disappointment was compounded by the fact that they had twice rallied to equalise the game before a winner was scored 12 minutes from the end.
Elena Sadiku was issued a red card for cynically applauding the referee. Before Caitlin Hayes equalised with a header from close range, Rangers had taken the lead through Rio Hardy’s early opener.
The controversy erupted during the fiery combat, as head coach Sadiku was remarkably shown a red card and sent to the stands after receiving two yellows. She cynically applauded the whistler after he had pointed to the spot for a questionable Rangers penalty after the initial card was issued for dissent against referee Jamie Wilkie.
And that was sufficient for the referee to once again reach into his pocket and dismiss Sadiku, as Katie Wilkinson converted the subsequent penalty. The game was once again levelled by a stunning free kick from Saoirse Noonan, but the visitors secured the victory with an audacious volley from Chelsea Cornet.
Celtic would have opportunities to equalise the draw; however, Jenna Fife, the visiting custodian, was in particularly good form.
Shelley Kerr, the former manager of Scotland, believed that the penalty shot was soft and acknowledged that it could have been a foul in the opposite direction on Shannon McGregor of Celtic by Charlie Devlin. What was said regarding Rangers’ dubious penalty?
She stated, “It is possible that Shannon McGregor committed a foul.” “However, I would argue that none of the players respond when you examine the situation.”As Rangers, you would be clamouring for a penalty.
Celtic supporters are engaging in a dispute with the referee. The players’ lack of response is truly unexpected for a game of this significance.
