Manchester United have finalized their third and fourth acquisitions of the summer transfer window in anticipation of the forthcoming season.
Erik ten Hag and Manchester United’s new football structure concurred that Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui would be valuable assets from Bayern Munich.
De Ligt has been officially acquired by United for €45 million (£38.4 million), with the potential for an additional €5 million (£4.2 million) in add-ons. Mazraoui has been acquired for a fee of €15 million (£12.8 million), with the potential for an additional €5 million (£4.2 million) in add-ons.
Victor Lindelof, who has entered the final year of his contract, was not included in the Community Shield squad. United are currently in the process of selling the Sweden international.
Mazraoui was recruited by Ten Hag at Ajax and was honored as the Dutch club’s prospect of the year during his inaugural season. Before joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, Mazraoui resided in Amsterdam for four years. Last season, however, his playing time was restricted under Thomas Tuchel.
The defender, who was attracted to United due to his ability to play as both a right and left back, only made 15 appearances in the Bundesliga. However, he did make his Champions League debut at Old Trafford.
United’s recently appointed CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and Ten Hag were in agreement that De Ligt and Mazraoui would be significant additions. This was a critical factor in both transactions, as the pair arrived from Germany for an initial combined fee of €60m.
The Bayern duo’s signings have been concluded for reasonable market value, according to club sources. They have also emphasized that United has been required to maintain budget discipline this summer.
De Ligt and Mazraoui are United’s third and fourth acquisitions of the summer transfer window, succeeding Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.
