Three possible formations for Arsenal to use against Liverpool in the absence of Riccardo Calafiori and William Saliba
Arsenal has the option of fielding three different lineups against Liverpool in the absence of Riccardo Calafiori and William Saliba. On Tuesday evening,
the sight of Riccardo Calafiori cautiously exiting the field at Emirates Stadium was likely the last thing Mikel Arteta wanted to witness. Arsenal has been severely impacted by injuries, and the Italian’s departure would be a significant setback in anticipation of their Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday. Jurrien Timber was once again absent for the 1-0 Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, and the Gunners will undoubtedly be without the suspended William Saliba. Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has previously maintained a low profile regarding Mohamed Salah, is also absent due to a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.
Arteta relocated Thomas Partey to right-back after hooking Ben White at the interval, and it is possible that the midfielder will be compelled to play there against Liverpool. Given the absence of Saliba and potentially Timber, it is a likely scenario that Arteta will assign White to center-back in conjunction with Gabriel, as the two established a strong partnership during the 2021-22 season. Partey has previously occupied the position of right-back, including during his tenure at Atletico Madrid. He executed a consistent performance against Shakhtar.
