Neil McCann’s three assertions regarding Celtic’s participation in the Champions League are irrefutable to the Parkhead faithful.
The Champions League is imminent, as Club Brugge is scheduled to visit Celtic Park next week. Brendan Rodgers has a significant opportunity to advance in the tournament by following up Celtic’s victory over RB
Leipzig with another victory over the Belgians. Celtic would be in contention for a play-off spot and not far from automatic qualification into the last 16 of the tournament if they win, bringing them to 10 points.
However, the former Rangers attacker believes that Neil McCann’s remarks regarding the Bhoys in the Champions League should serve as a cautionary tale to not only Brugge, but the entirety of Europe.
It was a game that sent “shockwaves” throughout the Champions League when Celtic defeated RB Leipzig. Celtic’s 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig was a significant confidence boosting for Rodgers, the team, and the Parkhead support, as they fought back from a goal down.
However, McCann believes that this outcome alone will cause teams to hesitate when visiting Celtic Park this season. McCann stated to BBC Sportscene, “I believe that both teams are in a very strong position to qualify.”
I believe Celtic’s current style of play and their ability to establish a rhythm are an embarrassment of resources. “You observe the bench today and consider the potential for turnover and squad refreshment.”
I believe that Leipzig would have caused significant ripples throughout Europe. “That is a German Bundesliga team that is extremely strong, and they dismantled them at times. I believed that they completely outplayed them.”
“So yeah, I don’t think it’s an easy game for either of the two Brugge teams, Cercle and Club Brugge.” “I am aware that they have a strong history, particularly Club Brugge, but I believe Celtic will achieve a great outcome, and it would be wonderful if Hearts could as well.”
Celtic’s Champions League clashes over the next three years and the potential implications for Aston Villa Brugges, Dinamo Zagreb, Young Boys, and Aston Villa of the English Premier League are the remaining teams Celtic must face in the group phase.
Although many Celtic fans will be hesitant to visit Villa Park in order to qualify, there is no reason to be apprehensive about the Premier League club.
Nevertheless, the Aston Villa game will be rendered obsolete in terms of qualifying from the league portion if Celtic can secure a victory against Brugge, a point against Dinamo Zagreb, and a victory over Young Boys at Celtic Park. It does not imply that the wish to defeat the English club is diminished in any way.
Celtic will be able to travel to England with less strain and engage in a free-flowing attacking game, demonstrating their capabilities to the southern clubs.
