Southampton have experienced significant squad turnover in recent seasons, and with more departures expected, a few players may already have made their final appearances for the club. The Saints currently sit 17th in the Championship after 15 matches as the latest international break begins.
Four wins, six draws, and five defeats represent a disappointing start, even with back-to-back victories against QPR and Sheffield Wednesday. Despite heavy summer spending under Will Still—who has since been dismissed—the team remains far below expectations. A new manager is expected to take charge by January, and further reshaping of the squad seems inevitable. As a result, several players could be on their way out.
Samuel Edozie
Winger Samuel Edozie was once regarded as a major prospect after arriving from Manchester City in 2022. He played 17 times for Southampton during the 2022/23 season and contributed regularly in their promotion push the following year. However, after slipping down the pecking order, he spent last season on loan at Anderlecht, becoming a consistent starter in Belgium and attracting interest from clubs such as Strasbourg and Club Brugge. Since returning, he has not featured for Southampton, and with January approaching, both a loan or permanent move looks increasingly likely.
Aaron Ramsdale
Aaron Ramsdale joined Southampton in 2024 following three seasons at Arsenal, but both he and the club endured a disastrous Premier League campaign, managing only two wins and 12 points. After relegation, the £25m goalkeeper faced a season in the Championship. When Newcastle United lost out on James Trafford, Eddie Howe moved for Ramsdale, signing him on loan with an option to buy for £15m.
While Newcastle have not yet decided whether to activate that clause—Ramsdale has only made three appearances and remains behind Nick Pope—a permanent move away looks more probable than a return to Southampton.
Ben Brereton Díaz
The third player likely to have played his last game for the Saints is Ben Brereton Díaz. Currently on loan at Derby County, he featured only in the EFL Cup and appeared on the bench early in the season before leaving Pride Park, where he has since started every match.
Brereton Díaz spent the first half of the 2024/25 season with Southampton in the Premier League before joining Sheffield United on loan to support their promotion bid, contributing four goals and three assists in 18 appearances.
Although his Championship experience could make him useful, the arrival of several young forwards at St. Mary’s suggests he may no longer fit into the club’s long-term plans. A permanent exit next summer seems the most likely outcome.
