Throughout the course of the last few months, the Dallas Mavericks have been in the news for a variety of different reasons. After Dallas made the decision to trade away star guard Luka Doncic, the team was met with a variety of criticism.
However, the team then unexpectedly won the lottery for the 2025 NBA Draft, and as a result, they will now have the opportunity to acquire Cooper Flagg, a star player from Duke. The past three months have been a difficult time for Dallas, considering the fact that they witnessed their best player Kyrie Irving suffer a damaged anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Due to the injury, it is anticipated that Irving will miss the most of the upcoming season. As a result, Dallas will need to find a means to replace the production that he provides. The possibility of a trade is one of the options, and it can originate from a well-known source.
As part of his appearance on “The Game Theory Podcast,” NBA insider Sam Vecenie discusses a possible trade that may take place between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers. The suggestion that Vecenie makes is that the two teams trade Dereck Lively for Austin Reaves, who is a guard.
It is comparable to saying that he is one of the top forty players in the league. I believe that he is so talented that I consider him to be a fiend. The remaining year of his contract is the last one before he becomes fairly pricey in this location. From this point forward, he is going to become extremely, extremely costly. For Austin Reaves, he asked, “Is there anything around just Dereck Lively, who has played with Luka, and who we know has great synergy with Luka?” Lively had played with Luka in the past.
On the surface, it does not appear that this transaction is going to be beneficial for the Lakers. On the other hand, Los Angeles has the opportunity to capitalize on the upcoming free agency of Reaves and get a center for the future.
It is not yet clear whether the Los Angeles Lakers are willing to give Reaves more than thirty million dollars in order to keep him in the city. The fact that this has occurred has caused many people in the league to speculate that Los Angeles may be trying to move on from him at some time before he is available for commercial use.
If the Mavericks were to move on from Lively, it would also help break up the stalemate that is projected to exist in the frontcourt for the basketball team. Lively would immediately become the focal point of the Lakers’ offense, and he has a great deal of experience playing alongside Doncic.
