In a sweeping victory for his second term agenda, Trump signs a “big, beautiful” measure, overcoming the opposition of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
The final version of the $3.3 trillion “big, beautiful bill” was passed by the House on Thursday, ensuring that it arrived at the president’s desk by his self-imposed July 4 deadline. President Donald Trump signed the law on Friday.
The bill contains critical provisions that would permanently establish the individual and business tax breaks that were included in Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Additionally, it incorporates new tax deductions to reduce the duties on gratuities and overtime pay. The president stated that the bill would “fuel massive economic growth” and “lift up the hard-working citizens who make this country run” prior to signing it.
“The Trump tax cuts have been made permanent,” Trump declared. “That is the most significant tax reduction in the history of our nation.” Our nation will experience an economic boom following this event. We have ensured that our esteemed seniors are not subject to any taxes on gratuities, overtime, or Social Security. It establishes the child tax credit as enduring for 40 million American families.
The Golden Age of America is upon us. The debt limit is also increased by $5 trillion by the measure, a provision that has been the subject of criticism from individuals such as Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who previously lead a campaign against wasteful government spending at the Department of Government Efficiency.
Furthermore, the measure eliminates specific green energy tax credits from the Biden era and allocates approximately $350 billion for defense and Trump’s mass deportation initiative to remove illegal immigrants from the United States. “Wind.” Trump declared, “It is ineffective.” “I will inform you that, in addition to ruining our
fields and valleys, killing all the birds, and being extremely expensive and weak, they are all manufactured in China.” You know, I observed something… with all of the turbines that China sends us… I have never observed a wind farm in China. The measure also implements Medicaid reforms, such as the introduction of new 80-hour-
per-month work requirements for Medicaid recipients and the expansion of work requirements for individuals on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough determined that several Medicaid reforms in the comprehensive tax and domestic policy package did not adhere to Senate rules and must be removed.
Consequently, Republicans in the Senate were compelled to act quickly on June 26 in order to reform and pass the measure before Trump’s July 4 deadline. In the end, the Senate narrowly approved the measure on Tuesday, with a 51-50 vote.
The measure was defeated by Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Rand Paul of Kentucky, necessitating that Vice President JD Vance intervene and cast the tie-breaking vote. The legislation was subsequently returned to the House to resolve a few discrepancies between the versions that were passed in both chambers of Congress.
Prior to the House’s passage on Wednesday evening, Vance intensified his pressure on legislators to ensure that the measure was finally passed, referencing provisions in the bill that would enhance border security. In a post on Wednesday on X, Vance stated, “The Big Beautiful Bill provides the president with the authority and resources to reverse the Biden border invasion.”
“It must successfully pass.” “Congratulations to all.” Even at times, I entertained doubts regarding our ability to complete the task by July 4. However, we have now implemented substantial tax reductions and provided the requisite resources to safeguard the frontier. “Promises made, promises kept!” During a “One, Big, Beautiful Event” at the White House on June 26,
Trump also focused on the border provisions of the measure, describing it as the “single-most important piece of border legislation ever to cross the floor of Congress.” He urged lawmakers to complete the legislation. “This is the ultimate codification of our agenda to — very simply, a phrase that’s been used pretty well by me over the past 10 years, but maybe even before that — make America great again,
” Trump stated at the event.. Other administration officials also expressed concern that the economy would be severely impacted if the bill were not passed. For instance, in June, Russell Vought, the Office of Management and Budget Director at the White House, informed lawmakers that the failure to approve the measure would lead to a 60% tax increase for Americans and would precipitate a recession.
