UEFA set to sanction Rangers after incident in Ludogorets clash

Rangers could be set for disciplinary action from UEFA following an avoidable incident during their Europa League win over Ludogorets.

The Light Blues edged to a 1–0 victory at Ibrox on Thursday, with Mohamed Diomande finding the net for just the second time this season.

While the performance did not reach the levels many expected — particularly with several players fighting for places — it still marked another positive result.

However, despite the match being a dead rubber, Rangers may now face a fine after failing to return to the pitch on time for the start of the second half.

Delays at half-time are something UEFA officials take seriously, and former referee Keith Hackett believes the incident is likely to lead to punishment.

Speaking to Ibrox News, Hackett explained that the referee will report the delayed restart, which will then be reviewed by UEFA’s disciplinary panel.

“The referee will note that Rangers delayed the second-half restart,” Hackett said. “That report will trigger an investigation by UEFA, and a fine will be imposed.”

It is an outcome Rangers could have done without, particularly given the lack of significance attached to the fixture.

Beyond the potential fine, the match offered several talking points for manager Rohl. Andreas Skov Olsen strengthened his claim for a regular starting role, with both Djeidi Gassama and Mikey Moore struggling to make an impact. Gassama, in particular, failed to deliver in the final third, while Moore showed signs of inexperience.

Findlay Curtis, who is expected to leave the club, was introduced late on and made a strong impression. In just 20 minutes, he posed a threat going forward, forced a good save, and contributed defensively — raising questions over whether his potential departure is the right call.

Overall, there were plenty of positives for Rangers on the night, but also a few issues that will be on Rohl’s mind ahead of the upcoming league clash with Dundee FC.
