‘Unbelievable!’ – Rio Ferdinand claims ex-Man Utd target would have to fall off ‘biggest cliff ever’ not to win Ballon d’Or.
“I cannot believe it!” Former Manchester United target Jude Bellingham would have to tumble off the “biggest cliff ever” in order to not win the Ballon d’Or. Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would be perplexed if Bellingham had not been awarded the Ballon d’Or by France Football during his career.
One of the United stalwarts who urged the Red Devils to acquire Bellingham, who has had an explosive start to life at Real Madrid, was Ferdinand.
Following his emergence at Birmingham City, Bellingham was linked with a transfer to Old Trafford; former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a huge fan of him.
The 20-year-old former Birmingham midfielder, however, declined offers from United and other Premier League rivals following his 2020 transfer to Borussia Dortmund.
During his stellar tenure in Germany, Bellingham made a name for himself on the international stage; United and Liverpool were among the clubs that renewed interest in him last summer.Nevertheless, it was Madrid that prevailed over the intense competition for Bellingham by reaching a monumental £115 million agreement to acquire him from Dortmund.
Bellingham at Madrid and surpassing the record set by Cristiano Ronaldo The ex-United target’s red-hot form from his days at Dortmund has continued in the Spanish capital, where he has made an outstanding impact.
Carlo Ancelotti’s important player from England, the England midfielder has amassed an impressive eleven goals and two assists in twelve La Liga appearances for Real Madrid.
In three Champions League appearances, Bellingham has also contributed to one goal and three assists, bringing his total goalscoring tally for Madrid to 14 in 15 matches.
On Sunday, the Real Madrid star scored in his team’s 3-0 victory over Cadiz; in doing so, Bellingham surpassed the record held by Cristiano Ronaldo. With 14 goals in 15 matches for Madrid, Bellingham has surpassed all other players in the club’s history in terms of pace. Ronaldo, Alfredo Di Stefano, and Pruden have all scored 13 goals.
Ferdinand is astounded by Bellingham’s start for Madrid.
Both his club and country have high hopes for Bellingham’s future, and the Madrid midfielder is anticipated to play a significant role for England at Euro 2024 next summer.
The Los Blancos star emerged victorious with a total of 90 points at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony, thereby securing the Kopa Trophy for France Football.
Even the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist included Bellingham, who placed eighteenth with five points, surpassing the likes of Andre Onana and Harry Kane.Early in his tenure with Real Madrid, Bellingham surpassed even Di Stefano and Ronaldo in terms of goals scored. This “unbelievable statistic” left Ferdinand in awe.
He further stated on his YouTube channel that Bellingham would be descending from the “greatest cliff ever” in the absence of a Ballon d’Or victory at some juncture.
Ferdinand said on VIBE with FIVE, “Jude Bellingham has surpassed the record for goals scored at the start of your Real Madrid career.”
“The top three are Jude Bellingham, Alfredo Di Stefano, and Cristiano Ronaldo, in that order.”
“That is an astounding statistic, wouldn’t you agree? “In terms of performance, he must have fallen off the greatest cliff ever if he fails to secure victory.”
