Despite the fact that the Constitution of the United States says he can’t, President Donald Trump didn’t rule out running for a third term on Sunday. He also said he was “not joking.”
“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump told NBC News. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”
Trump said that he is “focused on the current” term. When asked if he wanted a third term, he said, “I like working.”
When asked to explain, he said, “I’m not joking.” “But I’m not − it is far too early to think about it.” Even though he can’t, President Trump says he’s “not joking” about running for a third term.
When asked again about what he said on Air Force One, Trump said, “I don’t even want to talk about a third term now.”
“Because no matter how you look at it, you’ve got a long time to go,” he stated. “We have a lot of time.” There are still almost four years left, which is a long time, but a lot of people are telling me I need to run again.
The 22nd Amendment of the Constitution says that a person can only be president twice max.
The Constitution can only be changed in two ways: This can happen if two-thirds of the legislatures in both the House and the Senate vote for an amendment, or if two-thirds of the legislatures in a state call for a constitutional assembly. Then eighteen out of fifty state governments or conventions must agree to it.
He said, “There are others too,” but he wouldn’t say what they were.
Steve Bannon, the former top strategist for Trump in the White House, told NewsNation that he believes Trump will “run and win again in 2028” and that there are “a couple of alternatives” that would allow him to do so, even though they aren’t legal in the U.S. law right now.
