Newcastle United has made the official team numbers public for the 2025–26 season.
Since the 2024–25 season, there have been some changes. Martin Dubravka, Callum Wilson, and Sean Longstaff have all left the club, leaving the No. 1, 9, and 36 shirts empty.
The Magpies have also added Anthony Elanga as a new No. 20 and Aaron Ramsdale as a new No. 32.
Malick Thiaw is set to join the team this week, just in time for the first game of the Premier League season at Aston Villa. His squad number has yet to be announced.
Changes to Newcastle United’s team numbers
Nick Pope replaced Dubravka as Newcastle’s No. 1 custodian after the 2024–25 season. This means that Eddie Howe still prefers Pope over Ramsdale as his first choice custodian.
Lewis Hall has also changed his number from 20 to 3, which shows that he is a more important player on the team after having a great 2024–25 season before getting hurt.
The only notable empty shirt is No. 9, which is also the team’s most famous shirt. It will be ready for an attacking entry.
Alexander Isak made a comment.
It was thought that Isak would be able to choose the famous No. 9 shirt at Newcastle, but the scorer had already said that he would rather stay as No. 14.
But since then, Isak has asked to leave Newcastle and hasn’t been a part of the team’s pre-season practices since coming back from Austria a month ago. He won’t play in the first game on Saturday at Aston Villa because he reportedly doesn’t want to play for the club anymore because Liverpool wants to sign him.
As a kind of statement, Newcastle put Isak on their team list as No. 14. This shows that he is still a Newcastle player, at least for now. Newcastle fans had asked that Isak be taken off the team and not given a number for the next season because of how he had behaved.
The club decides who gets which squad number, so Newcastle could have taken Isak off if they thought it was best. Their statement, even if it was just for show, shows that Isak could still get back into the first team.
A pre-season star wasn’t on the NUFC team list.
Summer sign-up Park Seung-soo played well for Newcastle in the friendlies before the season started. The 18-year-old wore No. 64 in the pre-season friendlies, but his number wasn’t on Newcastle’s official squad number list that came out before the Premier League season.
Along with Harrison Ashby (No. 30), other young players like Alex Murphy (No. 37) and Max Thompson (No. 31) were also on the list. Ashby is expected to leave the club before the move deadline on September 1.
Newcastle’s squad number list also didn’t have Sean Neave, Alfie Harrison, or Leo Shahar on it.
