“VAR CONTROVERSY”: Reason why both Greg Taylor and Shaun Rooney were given a yellow card during the St. Mirren vs. Celtic match (0-3).
Greg Taylor has been a useful player for Celtic since he joined in 2019, becoming their first-choice left back.
It’s still not clear why Taylor was booked, since Rooney looked like he swiped at the Celtic left back, which should have been considered violent behavior off the ball.
With VAR watching, it’s still not clear why Rooney wasn’t sent off for what happened.
Taylor was just running back toward the goal when Rooney hit him without reason.
Celtic fans were probably confused about what happened, especially since both players were booked, even though Taylor didn’t seem to have done anything wrong.
This event adds to the criticism that VAR seems to be applied inconsistently, as it is often only used for certain situations at certain times.

Which brings up the question of what would have happened if Taylor had been hurt during the incident.
Players from the other team should not be booked for actions like these because it sends a bad message that they might get away with similar behavior in the future.
With the Glasgow game coming up, we can only hope that the refereeing gets better. People from Celtic have been sent off for much less in the past.
