“VAR CONTROVERSY.” Reason why Newcastle United FC 28-year-old forward Joelinton wasn’t sent off with a red card for Newcastle vs. Bournemouth after a rough challenge

The news talked a lot about Joelinton during Newcastle United’s unusual 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

The Video Assistant Referee looked at Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton’s possible violent behavior during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with AFC Bournemouth and found nothing wrong.

It was a controversial way for Eddie Howe’s team to earn a point on his return to the Vitality Stadium. Dango Outtara thought he had sealed the win in extra time, but VAR called it off.

Newcastle United got back into the game when Anthony Gordon scored a good goal in the second half to even things up. Before halftime, the Magpies were behind by one goal, scored by Marcus Tavernier following a close-range pass.

The Video Assistants’ decision added more time on top of the four minutes of stopping time that had already been used. During that extra time, both teams tried hard to score the second goal that would win the game.

Late in the game, Joelinton pulled Cherries goalie Neto back to stop a quick counterattack. Neto had done a great job of stopping a hopeful cross into the box. The incident featuring the Brazilian made the Bournemouth players angry, and the midfielder got away with a warning. The home bench was even more angry that the player wasn’t given a red card.

This newspaper knows that VAR looked into what happened and found no violent behavior. Instead, a member of Andoni Iraola’s office staff got a straight red card for making a fuss. Howe told Sky Sports after the game, “It was probably a bit careless on Joelinton’s part.”

“You could see what he was doing—he was trying to stop the goalkeeper—but you couldn’t get close to his head.” We’ll talk to him about that.”
