At the end of the 106 minutes that were played, Matt O’Riley scored the third goal for Celtic in extra time.
O’Riley found himself in a position within the Aberdeen box where he had plenty of space and time to himself after Alistair Johnston had cut the ball back.
With a spectacular finish, the Danish midfielder made no mistakes, leaving Kelle Roos with no chance of winning.
The fact that O’Riley was able to maintain his composure and take a touch before his shot in extra time speaks volumes about his level of class.
In particular, the combination play that Celtic displayed, particularly down the right-hand side, was highly good. James Forrest’s through pass to Johnston, which went past Jack Mackenzie, was particularly effective in breaking open the Aberdeen defense.
It is undeniable that Forrest had a significant impact on the game. His one-two combinations brought a new facet to Celtic’s wing play on both the right and left sides of the field over the course of the contest.
