“We deserved more.” Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben and the 46-year-old coach Eddie Howe slam their defeat against Brighton at St James’ Park
Jamie Reuben, Newcastle United’s co-owner, has responded to the team’s loss to Brighton at St James’ Park.
Fabian Hurzeler’s team secured all three points at St James’ Park with a single Danny Welbeck goal in the first half. Newcastle United was penalized by a resolute Brighton team for their profligacy in front of goal, as they failed to capitalize on a few golden opportunities to regain a foothold in the game.
The defeat results in Newcastle United finishing the day in eighth place in the Premier League table and without a goal from open play in more than seven hours of football. Following the game, Reuben, co-owner, posted on X, “Frustrating result- we deserved more – thank you for your outstanding support today @NUFC.”’
Eddie Howe expressed his disappointment in the Gazette regarding the goal they conceded and the lack of tangible results after the game. He shared the same sense of frustration. “I am disappointed with it.”
“I do not believe that we intentionally disengaged; however, we did not assemble ourselves as efficiently as we could have after Lewis Dunk’s dead ball.” We are dissatisfied with our actions from that point forward.
“I am experiencing extreme frustration, as I believed that our overall performance during the 60-65 minute period was extremely impressive.” This is the most dominant we have ever been in a game, and yet you fail to capitalize on your opportunities, resulting in a subpar goal from our perspective. It was Brighton’s first meaningful attack, and we are solely responsible for it.
“We must examine and evaluate that; however, the majority of the performance was exceptionally strong.”
