West Brom manager James Morrison shares verdict on Sheffield United after Bramall Lane draw

West Bromwich Albion came from behind to claim a hard-earned point against Sheffield United on Saturday, with interim head coach James Morrison expressing satisfaction with his side’s resilience in the 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane.

The contest lacked quality in the opening half, with neither side managing to create clear chances. The game eventually sprang to life eight minutes after the restart when George Campbell inadvertently turned a low cross from Gustavo Hamerinto his own net, handing the hosts the lead.

With Sheffield United aiming to close the gap to the Championship play-off places — and potentially benefit from Wrexham A.F.C. having the weekend off — the expectation was that they would push for a second goal to secure all three points.

However, West Bromwich Albion had other ideas. Despite arriving at Bramall Lane without a win in their previous 11 Championship matches, the visitors showed character and grabbed a late equaliser seven minutes from time. Campbell redeemed his earlier mistake by firing home a powerful strike to bring the Baggies level.

From Sheffield United’s perspective, the result felt like a missed opportunity, particularly given West Brom’s difficult run of form. Morrison, though, viewed the point as something his side can build upon.

Speaking after the match, the interim boss praised his players for their determination to fight back after falling behind at a challenging venue.

He admitted the first half performance was too passive, but said the team adjusted at the break by looking to play with more aggression while still maintaining defensive stability. Morrison explained that his side tried to find the right balance between staying difficult to break down and knowing when to step forward and attack.

He also emphasised that teams must be clinical when they get opportunities at Bramall Lane, describing ruthlessness in front of goal as essential when playing away in such a tough environment.

Despite considering changes late in the game, Morrison decided to keep faith with the players on the pitch, and they rewarded that decision by continuing to push until they found the equaliser
