West Brom set sights on 33-year-old coach amid Eric Ramsay’s winless spell

West Bromwich Albion F.C. are weighing up a move for a “hugely promising” young manager as pressure intensifies on Eric Ramsay following a dismal run of results.

After a difficult spell under Ryan Mason, Ramsay was appointed in a bid to steady the season. However, the 34-year-old is yet to secure a victory, and the situation worsened with a 2-0 home defeat to Coventry City F.C..

Speaking after that loss, Ramsay admitted his side are struggling in attack. “It’s undeniable that we are lacking a spark, real quality and regular opportunities of real note in front of goal,” he said, acknowledging the need for swift improvement.

With the January transfer window closed, Ramsay must find solutions within his current squad. Albion sit just one point above the Championship relegation zone, and upcoming fixtures against Charlton Athletic F.C. and Oxford United F.C.could prove decisive. Journalist Lewis Cox described the pressure on Ramsay as “huge,” noting the club’s slide into the bottom three while rivals have improved under new management.

According to Sports Boom, Ramsay’s position is under serious threat, with former Southampton F.C. boss Will Stillemerging as a potential replacement. Still, 33, has been out of work since leaving Southampton in November and is keen to return to management. He could be considered as an interim option if Albion opt for change.

Other names linked include Ralph Hasenhüttl and Sean Dyche, although Dyche has also been tipped for a possible return to Burnley F.C..

Appointing Still would represent another gamble. Despite earning praise earlier in his career — including from journalist Henry Winter — his only Championship stint proved challenging, with just two wins in 13 matches at Southampton. He favours a 3-4-1-2 system and is younger than Ramsay.

Still previously enjoyed notable success in France with Stade de Reims, leading the club on a 19-match unbeaten run during the 2022-23 Ligue 1 campaign. However, he lacks experience in relegation battles.

Given the club’s precarious position, Dyche — who steered Everton to Premier League survival in 2022-23 — may represent a safer, more experienced option. Albion could also explore appointing a short-term interim manager as they seek to halt their slide.
