Morrison to lead West Brom survival bid after head coach decision
James Morrison has pledged to “give everything” to keep West Bromwich Albion in the Championship after it was confirmed he will remain in charge for the rest of the season.
The 39-year-old club legend has been handed the responsibility of steering the Baggies away from relegation danger following last week’s dismissal of Eric Ramsay. Morrison first took interim charge during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Oxford United and will now oversee the club’s final 11 matches of the campaign.
Albion currently sit just one place and one point above the drop zone after failing to win any of their last 11 Championship fixtures. Ramsay — who replaced Ryan Mason in January — lasted only 44 days in the role, departing without a victory in nine games.
To strengthen his backroom staff, Morrison has recruited Matt Gill, previously assistant to Russell Martin. Gill was part of the coaching team that secured promotion to the Premier League with Southampton in 2024 and has also worked alongside Martin at Milton Keynes Dons, Swansea City and Rangers.
West Brom face a crucial trip to Sheffield United this weekend, with Morrison stressing the need to rebuild confidence quickly.
He said the focus must be on restoring belief on the training ground to ensure the players can perform under pressure on matchdays. While acknowledging that turning around poor form takes time, he remains confident that one positive result can spark momentum.
Morrison also admitted supporters have endured a difficult season but insisted the responsibility lies with the team to show the fight and commitment expected of a West Brom side. He believes the fans will respond in typical fashion if they see that determination on the pitch.
“I’m completely committed to getting us over the line,” Morrison said, adding that he knows from experience the club can achieve anything when united in adversity.
