Rangers have carried out a major shake-up at senior level, removing chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell with immediate effect. With supporters already angered by a dismal start to the campaign and Russell Martin dismissed in October, the club’s American ownership group has acted swiftly.
Stewart, formerly a key figure at Manchester United, and Thelwell, who arrived from Everton, lasted less than a year together at Ibrox.
Owner Andrew Cavenagh confirmed that interim CEO Fraser Thornton will step in while a full restructure is planned. Cavenagh said the club’s needs today “no longer align” with what Stewart and Thelwell provided, particularly after Danny Rohl’s early impact as manager lifted Rangers back into the top four.
