Why am scared of Phil Foden in the Euro 2024 – English football manager reveals his reason
Phil Foden, a star player for Manchester City, has been very busy with England at the 2024 European Championship.
This summer, the 24-year-old was picked to play for England in the tournament in Germany after making 53 starts for Pep Guardiola’s team in all competitions.
After that, the midfielder started all of England’s group games. He had to leave the camp for a short time to fly back to England to be with his partner during the birth of their third child.
Before Foden’s quarterfinal match against Slovakia on Sunday, he will go back to Germany to meet up with his international teammates. One past England manager talked about his thoughts on Foden’s short absence.
Sam Allardyce says he is worried about Phil Foden’s recent absence from England games.
Recently on No Tippy Tappy Football, Sam Allardyce was asked if Foden’s recent absence from the England group for a short time could be a worry for Southgate.
“Yeah, it would worry me,” he said. It would make me a little nervous. With the rush of energy that comes from being a new parent, that rush will follow you into the game. You know, the high from that gets you through it, and you think, “Wow, here we go.”
Southgate doesn’t need to worry about Foden.
After seeing the playmaker score 19 goals and set up 8 others in 35 Premier League games last year, Chris Sutton recently said that he was the best player in the league all season.
We think that Southgate would only have a problem with Foden’s short trip away from the England camp if it meant that he missed important training sessions or talks about how to prepare for Sunday’s big game.
Even though Allardyce said it was a big deal, we don’t think this is something the England manager should be too worried about since the FA let the City star leave and he came back in time for the next game.
