The Lions acquired former Cardinals offensive lineman Trystan Colon just a few days following his unexpected retirement.
Colon has the advantage of positional flexibility, as he played center in college but played guard for the Cardinals last season.
Although the flexibility is crucial for a Lions team that is experiencing instability in the interior of their offensive line, Colon’s potential as a starter is limited.
It is possible that they will continue to seek an individual who is more likely to be able to assume Ragnow’s primary role.
Gennaro Filice of NFL.com believes that the Lions should attempt to trade for Beaux Limmer, the center of the Los Angeles Rams.
Limmer was unexpectedly compelled into action during his inaugural season after the Rams selected him in the sixth round of last year’s draft.
Jonah Jackson, a former Lions guard, was anticipated to serve as the primary center for LA; however, an injury sustained in Week 2 restricted him to only four games.
Following Jackson’s injury, Limmer assumed the role of the primary center and played in 14 games.
As a rookie, he encountered difficulties in pass protection, permitting 21 pressures. Nevertheless, he achieved greater success as a run blocker.
This is the area in which the Lions will most significantly lose Ragnow next season. Consequently, Limmer is an ideal candidate for the position, particularly if he continues to develop during the offseason.
The Rams may be willing to consider parting ways with Limmer after they reinstated Coleman Shelton as their center this offseason.
Although Limmer is not an ideal solution for the Lions as they endeavor to establish their offensive line, he would provide them with a viable alternative with starting experience at the position in the event that the team’s center is not already on the roster.
