Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will play no part in Celtic F.C.’s Europa League knockout play-off clash with VfB Stuttgart.
The former Liverpool F.C. and Arsenal F.C. midfielder joined the Parkhead side on a free transfer and made an instant impression, scoring a late winner on his debut against Livingston F.C..
He was also introduced from the bench as Celtic staged a thrilling comeback from 2-0 down to beat Kilmarnock F.C. 3-2 at Rugby Park on Sunday.
However, Oxlade-Chamberlain was not registered in time for the Europa League knockout squad deadline and has therefore been left out of the 25-man list for the tie against Stuttgart. Fellow January arrivals Joel Mvuka and Benjamin Athur are also unavailable for European selection.
Celtic have instead added Tomas Cvancara, Junior Adamu and Julian Araujo to their updated squad for the knockout stage.
Brendan Rodgers’ side host Stuttgart in the first leg on Thursday, February 19, before travelling to Germany for the return fixture as they battle for a place in the last 16. Victory over the two legs would secure a UEFA performance bonus worth €1.75 million.
