Why Rangers F.C. sacked Patrick Stewart and the Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell

Rangers have officially dismissed CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell.

The club announced the major decision on Monday, a move many supporters welcomed after a rocky start to the campaign. Fans at Ibrox have staged protests this season, frustrated with leadership choices made by Stewart and Thelwell.

Andrew Cavenagh appears to have earned extra credit with supporters for acting on those concerns. Journalist Raman Bhardwaj reported that growing fan anger was one of the key factors behind the board’s decision to remove both men.

Although many Rangers fans are celebrating, they may not yet grasp how significant the next steps could be for the club. Under Danny Rohl, Rangers look reinvigorated, and the forthcoming appointment by the 49ers ownership group could be one of the biggest choices the club has faced in years.

With Rohl under contract for more than two years and January signings expected, the best version of this Rangers side may still be ahead. Results have already improved since his arrival, and the team has returned to consistent winning form in the Scottish Premiership.
