Wrexham A.F.C. and former Owls midfielder Josh Windass fires out a shocking criticism message over Sheffield United celebrations after Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 defeat at Hillsborough

Sheffield United comfortably won the Steel City Derby at Hillsborough on Sunday, but it was Josh Windass’ reaction that sparked a storm on social media.

The Blades claimed a dominant 3–0 victory, leaving Wednesday supporters disappointed after hopes of an upset. With more than 32,000 fans in attendance, the visitors proved far too strong, highlighting the major work the Owls may need to do in the January transfer window to avoid relegation.

Tyrese Campbell opened the scoring after 11 minutes and struck again early in the second half. Wednesday struggled to threaten throughout the match, and Tom Cannon’s late deflected goal sealed an easy win for United.

After the game, Windass—working as a Sky Sports pundit and a former Wednesday midfielder—commented on United’s celebrations, saying: “I’m not sure about all these celebrations.”

When Sky Sports posted his remarks on X, Sheffield United fans quickly hit back. Some accused Windass of hoping for a move to Bramall Lane earlier in the year, while others argued that winning a derby away from home fully deserved strong celebrations.

A number of fans also pointed to Wednesday’s poor derby record in recent seasons, while one Blades supporter mocked Windass for leaving the Owls in the summer after his wages went unpaid.
