Wrexham plot deadline-day move for £12.8m Aston Villa ace to boost promotion push
Aston Villa could face late interest in one of their promising young talents, with Championship hopefuls Wrexham reportedly weighing up an ambitious move.
The Welsh side sit sixth after 30 games and are chasing a remarkable fourth straight promotion, having surged from the National League to the second tier in just three seasons. With a play-off push well on track, Wrexham are believed to be targeting a wing-back to add extra thrust down the flanks — and Kosta Nedeljkovic has emerged as their top choice.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Serbian defender is a priority target in the final days of the window. Nedeljkovic joined Villa in a £12.8 million deal from Red Star Belgrade in 2024 and made 10 appearances in his first six months, including outings in the Premier League and European competition. However, competition from Matty Cash limited his opportunities, leading to a loan switch to RB Leipzig.
He impressed enough in Germany to earn another loan spell, but his game time has dipped this season, fuelling speculation over his immediate future. Wrexham are reportedly keen for Villa to cut short his current loan to allow a permanent move to be completed before the deadline.
The 20-year-old, capped eight times by Serbia, is viewed as a high-upside addition who fits Wrexham’s long-term model. Whether Leipzig are willing to let him go mid-season remains unclear, especially amid their own European ambitions.
If a deal for Nedeljkovic proves out of reach, Portsmouth’s Terry Devlin is said to be the leading alternative as Wrexham look to strengthen for the run-in.
