Darren Bent explained the reason why Phil Foden, the star of Manchester City, will encounter difficultly in securing a starting position for England
Darren Bent makes a claim about Jude Bellingham that will cause Phil Foden to be quite concerned.Phil Foden, the star of Manchester City, has not had the greatest start to the 2024/25 season.
The academy graduate was delayed in his return from his exploits for England at Euro 2024, and he subsequently contracted an illness.
The 24-year-old has yet to establish an account in the Premier League and has not yet been able to adjust to the pace of the game. Nevertheless, he has scored three goals in the Champions League. Foden withdrew from the most recent England squad as a result of a knock sustained during a match against Brighton and his general lack of conditioning.
Additionally, it appears that Foden’s absence from the Three Lions has significantly diminished his reputation. Jude Bellingham had an exceptional pair of games, and former striker Darren Bent has now issued a concerning assessment of Foden’s eligibility to represent his country.
Foden has never truly performed in an England uniform, which is a significant criticism among fans. His performance at Euro 2024 was undeniably subpar; however, there were those who harboured pity for him and instead attributed his shortcomings to the manager’s strategies.
England has recently played matches against the Republic of Ireland and Greece. Lee Carsley has deployed Jude Bellingham as the number 10.
Bent believes that Foden faces an extremely challenging challenge in his pursuit of a regular starting position for the national team, as the Real Madrid star has recently demonstrated his exceptional talent.
He elaborated on talkSPORT yesterday: “For me, the discussion about Jude Bellingham is a non-discussion, with regard to whether or not he should play.Because he consistently creates the moments, whether it be a goal, an assist, or a piece of quality, even when England is not performing well.
“This comparison is absolutely not appropriate; remove him from the situation and introduce Foden.” I believe that Foden is currently experiencing difficulty regaining his place in the starting lineup.
“If you are currently selecting two 10s behind a forward, you should select Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham.” Foden’s presence on the left is undesirable due to the prolonged complaints of the populace. That is not his most advantageous position.
Foden will be optimistic about the possibility of a reprieve for Thomas Tuchel. It is a genuine pity that Foden has not been as effective for England thus far in his career, as Manchester City fans undoubtedly observe him shining in sky blue on most weekends.
Palmer and Bellingham are unquestionably formidable competitors for his position as a starter; however, there is cause for optimism regarding The Stockport Iniesta.
Lee Carsley has concluded his interim tenure, and it will shortly be time for Thomas Tuchel to assume the position of manager. In his capacity as Chelsea’s head coach, Tuchel had previously lauded Foden, stating,
“I am unable to discuss Phil Foden, as he is not my player. However, you can observe his capacity and aspiration to determine the most significant matches.” “I have the impression that he is a kind individual with a
distinct personality, similar to Mason (Mount).” It remains to be determined whether Foden is a player that Tuchel intends to develop, but it will be exceedingly challenging for the new Three Lions manager to integrate all three of Palmer, Bellingham, and Foden into the same team.
