It is anticipated that Manchester United will not appoint a direct successor to Dan Ashworth within the club’s organizational structure following his unexpected departure.

Ashworth departed from the club on Sunday morning, having spent a mere five months at Old Trafford.

Subsequent to his appointment as the inaugural sporting director of the club, the contract of the 53-year-old individual was terminated following the 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest.

His departure has heightened concerns regarding Ineos’ management of the club, particularly following their dismissal of Erik ten Hag shortly after granting the Dutchman a new contract.United issued a statement confirming that Ashworth’s departure was mutually agreed upon; however, reports have indicated otherwise.

A recent report by The Sun has indicated that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is contemplating relinquishing the position of sporting director and instead distributing the associated responsibilities among multiple individuals.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United will not pursue a direct successor for Ashworth; however, the possibility of appointing another executive remains open.

The report further asserts that the club’s leadership is deliberating on the most effective strategy for managing Ashworth’s departure.

Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada, Technical Director Jason Wilcox, Interim Director of Recruitment Christopher Vivell, and Ineos Director of Sport Sir David Brailsford may all constitute the team responsible for the duties of the sporting director.

It is acknowledged that Berrada and Wilcox will assume the preponderance of Ashworth’s responsibilities, while Vivell will maintain leadership over the recruitment aspect in conjunction with Director of Negotiations, Matt Hargreaves.

The club has not dismissed the possibility of introducing a new member to the group.

It is reported that United is eager to appoint an individual to assume responsibility for the strategic and operational duties that Ashworth has vacated.
