The statements made by Pat Bonner regarding Liam Scales prior to Celtic’s victory over Rangers in the League Cup final

“What Pat Bonner said about Liam Scales before Celtic’s League Cup final victory over Rangers”At Celtic, Liam Scales has embarked on an extraordinary voyage.

Brendan Rodgers’ return to Celtic last summer was a challenging period for all parties, as the club had recently experienced instability following Ange Postecoglou’s departure to Tottenham in the Premier League.

An individual such as Scales had been on loan at Aberdeen and was not considered a first-team starter or even a squad player at his primary club.

But life is all about taking chances, and the Republic of Ireland international was given the opportunity to develop in the midst of the backline’s injuries. Since then, he has continued to flourish.

That was demonstrated when Scales played a critical role in Celtic’s victory over Rangers in the League Cup final at Hampden on Sunday. Pat Bonner was “disappointed.” Celtic’s League Cup final victory over Rangers was not initiated by Liam Scales.

Auston Trusty has swiftly acclimatized to Rodgers’ system and has since become a regular alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers. This is not a result of Scales’ misconduct; rather, it is a case of Trusty’s rapid ascension.

However, Trusty was substituted for Scales by the manager after only 45 minutes of the match against Rangers, and the Bhoys were on the losing end.

Pat Bonner expressed his “disappointment” at Scales not commencing before the ball was kicked, which made the call even more intriguing. He stated this to BBC Radio Scotland.

Bonner expressed his disappointment with Scales’ absence from the squad, stating, “I have had the opportunity to speak with him on numerous occasions.

“Certainly, as an Irishman, I am eager to witness our international players compete; however, I believe that Trusty has performed exceptionally well.”

It required some time for him to adapt to the game’s pace and fitness level. However, at present, I believe that he appears to be quite content. Additionally, he is proficient in the air.

Why was Auston Trusty substituted by Scales at halftime during Celtic’s match against Rangers?Rather, Rodgers explained to Premier Sports after the victory that it was due to his dissatisfaction with Celtic’s build-up play and for tactical reasons.

“We were unable to progress through the pitch because we appeared so clumsy,” Rodgers disclosed. “We appeared somewhat agitated.” So I was not fond of the manner in which we cleared up the game. Scales has been exceptional, to be honest.

“He is uncontaminated, and Auston Trusty performed exceptionally well.” I simply felt that he has now had the opportunity to play in finals for us, Liam.

I have just made that adjustment, and he entered the game and was able to resolve the issue. Many believed that if Rodgers were to make a change, it would be to the left-back position, as Greg Taylor’s error resulted in the Rangers’ opening goal.

However, he chose to remove the American player, and this was not due to an injury, as many had presumed at the time the decision was made.
